DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ISSUES
As part of creating the double page spread of my magazine I faced many issues.
PROBLEM:
We couldn't two A4 pages to appear side by side each other
SOLUTION:
it just turned out the software was trying to help and in fact we had to insert three pages, because the cover of a magazine wouldn't be double page.
PROBLEM:
I couldn't get text or images to spread across the two pages without disappearing.
SOLUTION:
Instead of putting two pages side my side, I doubled the width of the A4 page so that it would be the size of a double page. Although, this means I wont have guttering.

DRAFT COVERS:
Before deciding for sure what picture I wanted to use as my cover I tried out various different images just to be sure. Here are some of my earlier drafts which in the end I chose not to use -

I was originally going to call the magazine UNEXAMPLED however changed my mind as one of the things all music magazines have in common is that the title usually has something to do with music, leading me to the name LOUDER.

PLEASE COMMENT STATING YOUR FAVOURITE FONT FROM THE LIST BELOW:
The font chosen will be the font used for the mast head of my magazine. I want to give the "free" impression. That the magazine isn't trying to follow a previous media before, and offering a unique, informative magazine.

McQuail (1983) classified the following common reasons for media use:
INFORMATION: Different groups of people use NME for different reasons. Information is given in any magazine and NME is no exception. People will be looking for relevant events and conditions in immediate surroundings, the society and the world. The magazine will also provide advice on practical matters/opinions and decision choices - this could be based around a new upcoming artist or about what new trends will be soon popular. NME will also aim to satisfy curiosity and general interest by continually updating their information and reporting reviews and interviews of different music medias. Finally people who read the magazine will want to gain a sense of security through knowledge and so the magazine will aim to provide as much new information every issue as they can.

RECCE
To experiment what type of background and setting we would want our magazine covers to have. We did this by going around school and taking pictures, but obviously being in school we were limited. I tried to find as many as original pictures as possible because one of the things that came back from my questionnaire was that they expected the indie genre to be unique and not follow the crowd.
I like the image to the left because it has a 'free' and 'airy' feel. When I think of the stereotype indie I imagine it outside and generally natural and carefree. I like the bike in the picture because it also symbolises that they are going somewhere. This also represents to the genre indie as every day it becomes more and more popular.
I also like the image to the right. I love the sky with the clouds in the background, symbolising freeness and nature with the grass also in the image. But also by having the fencing and railings in the picture and having it at a low angle gives in a almost superior feel, as though to be taken seriously.
I love the blue sky and definitely think I will include this if not on my cover definitely somewhere in my magazine. I like the old, battered affect from the broken basketball hoop because I think it gives the photo personality and a story.
